Sparkler Translation

The purpose of this project was to choose an object and capture it 100 different times in order to see a transition. I decided on sparklers because I wanted to focus on the experience one feels as a sparkler sets fire. I was interested in concentrating on the translation of a photograph into different phases, such as studying the silhouette of stop motion photographs as a sparkler is set off and then translating this into a colored pencil sketch. Through this process I was able to focus in on the movement the sparks create as they dance around the sparkler rod. For the last 25 images I was compelled to capture the user's interpretation and the energy sparklers give off as they are in one's hand. I did so by using a 10 second exposure lapse to photograph the various paths sparklers create as they are being drawn through the air.
